The Engineering of ARF's Cyclocar VTOL a r f technology

by alsaCEMusic

In this video we are going to learn about Cyclorotors. Contrary to popular belief, Cyclorotors have been around for a century. They werent able to make inroads in the aviation sector because of the unavailability of suitable materials and lack computer flight controls.

With technology now available, cyclorotors can now be used. An aircraft that uses a cyclorotor is called a Cyclogiro.

The ARF, a Russian research organization is developing a 6 seater Cyclogiro for military purposes. This aircraft is being called the Cyclocar

Check out the Ezekiel Airship which flew in 1902. A full-scale model is in a Pittsburgh, Texas, museum.

These are interesting novelties but hideously inefficient, power hungry, and impractical for the vast majority of uses

This type of lift configuration would be awesome for adaptation to electric cars. Imagine pulling up in a fully charged Tesla and having these rotors latch to your wheels. All of the flight avionics and electrical power could be supplied by the car. This would also allow you to fly somewhere, land, then proceed to drive to the exact location.

Once energy density of batteries gets much better maybe this will be possible.

Outstanding report & concepts. My only hope is, when this technology is developed for consumer use- a method
of communication safety will be foolproof, as some of the same people who have not mastered the simple task of using blinkers while driving cars will be navigating above our homes & our heads.

How I see this:
A square wheel was invented long time ago. There were many attempts to build a square-wheeled bicycle and all of them failed. But modern technology finally allowed to build one! Using carbon fibre composite frame and unconventional suspension, the engineers created a model with 5 kg payload capacity. Yes, it still barely moves but it has such a high potential and has some advantages on difficult terrain.

I have seen wind power generators using this same design at the college in my hometown. It is genius as it doesn't matter which way the wind blows it always works.

Hate when they use the word "car" when describing aircraft. Cyclocopter not Cyclocar. Car probably is better for marketing.

Very cool in any case.

Will never pass safety test for human use without having some type of emergency backup to keep it from falling out of the sky if one cyclo gyro fails…

And as fast as the technology develop, then in future there will be a flying car and then slowly there will be a modification that Engineers will make this flying car into both flying and also a Running on the Road….. Guaranteed by me and this will happen definitely in future before 2040…note it..

Yeah no. I rather use centrifugal fans to do the job if I had to choose between this and that. These ideas are poor for a damn good reason.

Not useful, and not a hope in hell of producing a viable passenger vehicle any time soon.
Axial mounted airfoils are on helicopters for a reason. There was a ducted-fan craze in the late 80's early 90's that met the same fate as this.
Don't waste your money funding this unless you just like whirligigs, because thats all this "technology" is.
