That title isn’t hyperbole or clickbait nonsense. This really is better than your toaster. At least, I think so. Seriously, can we make this the norm, please? If we figured it out in 1948, you’d think we woulda kept going with it. I mean, really.

Looking for the previous video?

How about the second channel video where we improve and fix these?

Want to read those patents that were on the screen? You’re in luck! They’re right here!
Here’s the patent for the toaster itself:

And here’s the patent for the thermostat:

Also, here’s a link to that fan-site I mentioned;

I have 2 of these things. I wanted one for awhile. There are a few cosmetic varieties of them. Mine has darkness lever instead of a knob

Hey! What about toasting just one slice of bread? Is it possible with this design?

D Hansel 19/12/2021 - 6:22 Chiều

We had one when I was growing up.
Ebay has them as high as $ 600.00

Hot damnit i love this guy. Who else can make a toaster look this cool?

ydoomenaud 19/12/2021 - 6:22 Chiều

My family had one of those. The reason this design was discontinued is simple: In 1949 companies prided themselves on making durable goods. In 2021, stockholders demand people replace their devices on a schedule for maximum revenue stream.

FredShoey 19/12/2021 - 6:22 Chiều

Yeah these are pretty old designs and so am I. Our family had one of these things when I was growing up in the 50's and 60's.

I am looking around my kitchen wondering if I have space for one of these.
It’s an elegant toaster from a more civilized age.

They make modern automatic toasters today.

Perhaps if the outer coils were made slightly longer (higher resistance) then it could be fine tuned by shorting some of the windings in order to balance the power between the inner and outer heating elements.

I don't even eat bread anymore but I really want the non-jumpscare toaster.

A perfect example of how much more ingenuity was required in the pre-digital age. Anyone can stick a chip in a board and program it to perform its function. But, it takes a real engineer to come up with a 3 or 4 lever system to translate a little bit of heat expansion into a bread-length drop in the toaster carriage.

I just started watching this, hope he talks about the dangers of this kind of toaster.

I have not used a toaster in years, nor do I have an affinity for toast, but this video has completely convinced me that I can no longer live comfortably without this Sunbeam toaster.

Does it work if you only put in one slice?

mantasour 19/12/2021 - 6:22 Chiều

Found one of these for $20 at a thrift store. I had heard they were the cream of the crop in the antique toaster world. I've seen them go for a couple hundred online and at antique stores. Mine is like the third, broken one he pulls out. It has that front dial/lever. It's probably from the late 60s/ early 70s. It has a very outdated cord. It works, but even on the lightest toast setting, it chars that shit. Maybe it needs some good old compressed air blown in. Idk. As a lifelong fan of the movie The Brave Little Toaster, I must say I love this toaster. Simple, yet pretty genius. Gonna give mine a good shine and a new cord

I detest dried out, nearly burnt bread; which is why I always make toast on a griddle. After watching this I am stunned by the thought that I might try to find one of these electric bread burners to buy. Amazing technology, simple and elegant.

When all your toasters are antiquated by an antique

Susan Walker 19/12/2021 - 6:22 Chiều

Never in a million years would I have thought I would watch a 18+ minute video about toasters. However, I was intrigued and captivated. I did not understand all of the terms or explanation of how it works, but it was very interesting!

tammy nelson 19/12/2021 - 6:22 Chiều

I'm 64…we had that toaster when I was growing up.

Victor Kappel 19/12/2021 - 6:22 Chiều
